USA1 is on the right track. Every drum brake setup I have ever worked, on regardless of make, always followed the same setup. The PRIMARY shoe is the SHORTER and goes on FACING towards the FRONT of the vehichle (think: primary 1st). The SECONDARY shoe is the LONGER one and goes on FACING towards the REAR. Don't get confused in thinking about this one is on the left and that one is on the right because it will be the opposite when you get to the wheel on the other side. Just keep the primary facing the front no matter which wheel you're working on.
Reply:The longer brake pad is always the one that goes on the BACK side of the set.
Reply:Primary is uasallty the smaller one.
Reply:the longer one goes on the back side of the drum.true for any drum brake system.
