I've heard that running shoes lose this cushioning even if they are not used. For example, lets say that i bought two pairs of shoes. I used one while the other remained in the closet brand new in box. Would the latter, that has been sitting in the closet without use for about two months still have the same cushion/stability as it did when i first bought it? I would think so, but i have heard that this is not the case. Any ideas? Preferably from experts in the running, shoe, and/or podiatry field. Thanks!
Do running shoes lose their cushioning/stability even if you don't run in them?
I would think so. I mean, all shoes get worn down and worn out eventually. Right?
Reply:I think natural deterioration over a period of years is plausible. However two months I don't think is an issue. You'll find that in some running stores, odd sides or unpopular model of shoes will still get sold even if they're on the shelf for 3-4 months.
You're fine with what you've got.
Reply:I have never heard of this. As long as they are not used or exposed to unnatural conditions, I would think they they would remain like new. Especially if only stored for a couple months.
Reply:YES. The cushioning stuff is achieved through chemical processes which don't necessarily stop when the shoes go on the sales shelf.
