Just a reminder to you that its that time of year again filling shoe boxes with items for the children in poorer countries ,it is so satisfying to think that those little children even keep the wrapping paper until the next box comes .
Its christmas shoe box time?
If you have a Real Aid charity shop in your area they do the Christmas Shoe Boxes. Know what you mean about seeing these kids sitting holding the boxes - saw a tv prog about it last year. If you want to do something other than just at Christmas there are schools in Malawi that need pencils, crayons etc., Schools in our area collect from the general public as well as their students. 1 pencil between 8 kids! So they need all the help they can get. As for the cynical comments about aid not getting to those who need it......this isn't confined to Third World countries I'm afraid, there have been people in this country who help out voluntarily at charity shops who help themselves to stuff and don't pay for it! Despite these displays of dishonesty we should all try to help those in need. If your priorities lie with your own then there are still people trying to rebuild their lives after the floods during the summer. If everyone stopped helping others due to politics etc., the world would be a nastier place than it already is (for some).
Reply:,,,,,,,,,,you should take it to them your self then it would be 3 times as good
Reply:You're deluded - most of this stuff gets grabbed by corrupt individuals en-route and is distributed among their own well-to-do families.
Unless of course you deliver it to the poor yourself.
Reply:Thanks for posting that reminder. The deadline for the Christmas shoe boxes is sometime in early November. Here's the website:

Reply:Our Church has a group effort to ship things to them so I do contribute,it is a good cause,...regardless of the risks involved in them receiving it with complications in their Country, the majority of it does reach the intended children..Yes I have participated in the efforts first hand.=)
Reply:I started at the begining of the year, buying bits and pieces and doing knitting.
It is wonderful to see the childrens faces as the boxes are given out.
Some of them just hold onto the boxes, I guess
holding them brings a kind of comfort.
The church in my communitie, sends just over a hundred. It is a privilege to help.
Reply:I have heard of this and it sounds like a wonderfull idea! Who can provide some reputable names of organizations where we can send such donations?
Reply:may be being cynical but what about poor in our own country i feel sorry for the kids but how much aid can we pour into these countries it seems like a bottomless pit
