Do you think they should stop making cardboard boxes other than for shipping?

I was watching a recycling program and I started thinking why do we need shoe boxes, toy toxes, candy boxes, hat boxes, boxes in boxes for bulk food boxing and so many other types of boxes. Don't you think that would save more trees and cause less trash? Tell me what you think and would you buy shoes, gum, candy, etc. without a box?

Do you think they should stop making cardboard boxes other than for shipping?
all good answers above but heres a good thing to think about- senerio----

you own a logging company to produce products such as paper and cardboard. you own 500,000 acres of trees. you cut down mature trees of 100,000 acres of trees. this profit you make from them lasts 15 years. it takes 15 years for a tree to grow before you cut them for your product. what do you do to keep your company going? PLANT MORE TREES!!!. to many people think that if you cut down a tree, you can't plant another tree. wood is a renewable resourse and logging companies know what there doing. keep cardboard. it's great!
Reply:Less packaging is a great way to go. Unfortunately packaging is necessary in many instances - it allows items to be protected during shipping and to be stacked either for shipping or for inventory. It is over used in some cases just for the advertising of the contents (especially in children's toys).

The compromise is to use as little as possible - use post consumer recycled waste to make the packaging boxes - and make sure to recycle it when done with it.
Reply:What makes you think that products would be packaged in boxes if there weren't a need for it? Manufactureers are in business to make as much money as possible, not waste it on useless packaging.

Cardboard and corrugated board protect the product from physical damage, contamination, spoilage, pilferage -- all sorts of things. Not too shabby for a product that uses very little virgin fibre and can be reused or recycled.
Reply:Well, I think that they should recycle the boxes and use other materials too to help make up the boxes (such as paper, for example) so that way less waste goes into landfills. And I would definitely buy shoes, gum, candy, and so on without a box. I mean, I have before, so I wouldn't mind doing it again.

But if people were using them to move....well, I think that they should still use recycled and recycable boxes.
Reply:Definitely not...!

1. they are made of natural products, wood and recycled paper.

2. They will disintegrate within a very short time, unlike plastics which can take up to 300 years or more in some instances.

So let's do away with Plastics instead......!

Paper bags instead of cardboard boxes would also help.

Thanks for CARING...
Reply:I THINK YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO, EXCEPT TRY AND UPSET THE APPLE CART. BOXES ARE GOOD AND RECYCLEABLE
Reply:no!! what will people use to move to a different house

peole will need to use cardboard boxes for different things other than shopping
Reply:No, they should make a lot more.
Reply:no they should just use recycled boxes
