Christmas shoe boxes?

How many of you have started to do the xmas.boxes for the needy children out in the poorer countries, our children have so much it teaches them to share. I think it's a great idea.

Christmas shoe boxes?
I have done it twice. Last year I had problem finding a shoebox, shoe shops like Lillywhites said they can't give me any. I didn't want to spend money on a new pair of shoes cos I could spend the money making another two boxes.

i finally decided to try my neighbors in the same block. I put up a notice in the corridor asking if they had any unwanted shoebox to give away for this purpose. A week later just before the deadline, I got three big boots size boxes! although they were too big my husband managed to make them into the 'standard' size shoeboxes, I made three at the end.

It was wonderful, really wonderful.
Reply:my children do it every year, i think it,s great!
Reply:Ive done shoe boxes for the last 2 years....i enjoy making up the boxes for the needy families... enjoy knowing i mite make a difference and make at least one needy family smile xxx
Reply:I havent started it but I did it last year and it was so very rewarding. I hope to do it again this year.
Reply:I do it every year with my National Honor Society students. It is a great way to give back to those less fortunate.
Reply:Well done to you and your children. It is as you say a wonderful teaching opportunity. Our Church always reach out to those in need in whatever way we can and it brings such happiness and joy as we become involved in all sorts of projects to help others and also local communities, and throughout the world. God Bless you for your efforts.
Reply:it is a great idea and God bless you for doing this....
Reply:I did one every year at my old school.

This year we're buying a cow for a family in Africa.
Reply:I haven't started a Christmas box for children in another country, but I have signed up for the Christmas Drive in our own community this year, you get a description of a family in need, the ages and sexes of their children and basically create a Christmas for that family... food , gifts , etc.... I sponsor a world vision child monthly, but thought it would be nice to keep Christmas close to home this year.
Reply:I'm for it as long as it doesn't go to the bin Laden children.
Reply:It's a great idea and I do it all year round so the boxes are ready and it's easier to pick stuff up when you do a weekly shop, this way the children are in your thoughts all year round, not just christmas. I think it's great that people do this.
Reply:Yes we have. I am a single parent struggling to make ends but my children give up some of their pocket money and even some of their toys to put into one or two shoe boxes each year. They learn at school where the shoe boxes go to and they could not believe that some children had never had a Christmas present.

Well done to Operation Christmas Child and all the volunteers who enable this joy to be spread around the needy children of the world.
Reply:i try to do it every year but some times i just forget
